Our History

Joining the communiy hub and Mens Shed

St Andrews men's Shed was established on 2 May 16 as part of the Express Group Fife (SC015338) and on 29 Nov 17 we became an independent organisation.

We are a member of the Scottish Men's Shed Association and became a SCIO (Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation) in April 2018.

Our first year was mainly spent acquiring a suitable workshop and meeting place and we have acquired a bespoke workshop made from two modified containers.

This workshop is part of a community hub and another two modified containers are used as a community space.

The second set of containers has been fitted out to be used as a flexible space for meetings or practical activities. We use this space as a crew room when we meet. Our members help provide the manpower and expertise to complete projects on other parts of the site.

The site is completely off-grid and presently we use a diesel generator and solar panels to power the site. We currently undertake two types of projects, either making small items for sale to generate cash for expendables or projects that benefit the local community.

Our numbers have steadily grown from 6-10 in the first year to 50+ members. We have done numerous community projects such as a bespoke multi-station ‘mud kitchen’ for Kilmaron special needs school in Cupar.

We attend lots of local events; Craigtoun Country Fairs, St Andrews Harbour Festival and St Andrews Day celebrations. During Covid-19 lockdown we kept in contact via a weekly zoom meeting and several members completed projects for the shed in their own sheds.

We reopened on 26 Apr 21 and are actively looking for new members.
